Q: What does it mean to be "Saved?"

A:  In a nutshell, to be "Saved" is to have accepted Christ as your personal savior, to have accepted God's gift of salvation, to know that you have a place in Heaven after you die.  Once saved, you cannot get un-saved.  You can sin, which will affect whether you face God in glory or shame, but you cannot lose your salvation.  (Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:23, 10:13, Hebrews 9:22, Acts 16:30-31, 17:30)

Q:  How do I get Saved?

A:  Six Simple Steps of Salvation:

1    Acknowledge that you are a sinner. (Romans 3:23)

2    Acknowledge that as a sinner there is a penalty:  death, separation from god, don't get to go to heaven, get to go to hell.  (Romans 6:23)

3    Acknowledge that "works" (things you do, kindness you show to others, what you do to help society, etc...) does not give you eternal life, does not get you Heaven.  If you are unsaved, you will go to hell, there is nothing you can do about it on your own.

4    See that God has a plan, the gift of "Salvation."  Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of man.  This includes you, sins that you have done.  God's plan is that by believing in Jesus Christ, believing that he died so that your sins would be forgiven (all you have to do is ask), you can have eternal life in heaven with God.  The penalty for your sins has been paid, it is up to you to accept the gift! (Hebrews 9:22, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:13, Acts 16:30-31, John 3:3, 3:7)

5    Confess your sins and repent (don't keep doing what is sinful and un-Godly).  (Acts 2: 38, 17:30)

6    Ask Jesus to be your personal savior, to forgive you of your sins, to receive the gift of Salvation.  Something as simple as this prayer is all that is needed:

"Oh, God, I know I am a sinner.  I believe Jesus was my substitute when He died on the Cross.  I believe His shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection were for me.  I now receive Him as my Savior.  I thank You for the forgiveness of my sins, the gift of salvation and everlasting life, because of Your merciful grace.  Amen."

Q:  What does it mean to be "Born Again?"

A: You have been born once, physically.  To be "Born Again" is to be spiritually born, to be saved, to have had the Holy Spirit enter you, to spiritually start to live.  (John 3:3, 3:7, 1st Peter 1:23)

Q:  What does Baptism by Immersion buy me?

A:  It does not get you to heaven.  It is an act of obedience, an external declaration of faith. Many Baptist churches require that 1) you be saved, and 2) you be baptized prior to church membership. (Acts 2:41)
